Chinese cross-border e-commerce imports and exports in 2023

According to statistics from China Customs, in 2023, our country's foreign trade e-commerce import and export 2.37 trillion yuan, an increase of 15.3% over 2022 (the same below), accounting for 5.7% of country's total import and export value of goods trade in the same period, an increase of 0.8%. Among them, exports are about 1.84 trillion yuan, an increase of 20.2%, accounting for 7.7% of country's total exports in the same period; imports are about 533.52 billion yuan, an increase of 1.1%, accounting for 3% of country's total imports in the same period (see the table below for details).

From the perspective of export destinations, the United States (37.4%), the United Kingdom (8.7%), Germany (4.7%), Russia (4.6%), and France (3.7%) account for nearly 60% of the total exports. Emerging markets such as Thailand (2.5%), Vietnam (2.4%), Malaysia (2.4%), and Australia (2.1%) are active. The United States (15.6%), Japan (13.5%), Australia (11.2%), France (7.9%), South Korea (7.2%), New Zealand (7%), Germany (6.4%), Italy (3.6%), the United Kingdom (3.4%), and the Netherlands (3.3%) are the main sources of imports.
Among the cross-border e-commerce export commodities, consumer goods account for 97.3%, mainly clothing, shoes, bags, and jewelry accessories, home textiles and kitchen utensils, mobile phones and other digital products and accessories, home office appliances and accessories, etc. Imported consumer goods account for 97%, mainly beauty and cosmetics, fresh food, medical and health products and medical equipment, milk powder, clothing, shoes and bags, and jewelry accessories.
Cross-border e-commerce exports mainly come from Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangsu. Imported goods are consumed in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Beijing.
